Warren County Lumber yard gets a CHERRY assignment
Chris Bingaman, Dean Heintzelman, Sam Hayes and Max Bingaman display a library table ordered for President Bush and made from Cherry stock lumber out of the Bingaman and Son Lumber Clarendon Division.
Several weeks ago Chris Bingaman (an owner of Bingaman & Son Lumber) was contacted by Sam Hayes, the former Pa. Secretary of Agriculture, asking Bingaman’s to provide Cherry to be made into a table for an important person. Chris then contacted an Amish table-maker in Allensville who crafted the table from Bingaman’s donated Pennsylvania cherry into a replica of a table made in the colony in the mid-1700’s. The table includes a gold plaque stating the lumber was donated by Bingaman and Son Lumber.
The table was presented to the president Bush before the convention in honor of his visit to the FFA convention. Mr. Bush acknowledged the gift noting that he was proud to receive the table which will be donated to the Crawford, Tex. Chapter of the FFA and will be on display at that location.
President Bush was visiting State College Tuesday to attend the 6th Pennsylvania FFA Summer Convention. President Bush spoke to the students about the agriculture industry and took the opportunity to promote his proposals to reform social security. The president proposes giving workers the option to set up a personal savings account, a nest egg the government wouldn’t be able to take away. All of the owners of Bingaman & Son Lumber were in attendance (Max Bingaman, Chris Bingaman, and Dean Heintzelman).
Special guests at the convention included U.S. Senators Rick Santorum and Arlen Specter, Rep. John E. Peterson, Gov. Ed Rendell, and Joe Paterno, Penn State football coach.
